The White Lotus is switching things up for its next season — and fans can expect a dramatic change of scenery.
After spending its first three seasons in tropical and coastal locations — Hawaii, Italy and most recently Thailand — creator Mike White has revealed that the upcoming fourth instalment of the HBO series may move away from the ocean views in favour of a more metropolitan backdrop.
“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular,” he said following the season three finale.
“But there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
Each season of the dark comedy anthology has been set in a different luxurious Four Seasons resort — first in Maui, then Sicily, and most recently Koh Samui.
Now, the Emmy-winning series could be heading inland, potentially setting up shop in a major European city.

Earlier this year, Deadline reported that producers were eyeing another Four Seasons hotel for the next chapter, with a European city as a strong contender.
Locations owned by the luxury chain include Paris, Milan, Budapest, Florence, Lisbon, Madrid and Prague — any of which could provide a rich backdrop for more scandal, satire and secrets.
“We’re going on some location scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon,” HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi told Deadline in February.
“I can’t really say where we’re going to land but chances are somewhere in Europe.”
While the exact destination remains under wraps, White’s comments come as season three came to a close.

Framed by Eastern mysticism, the latest series has featured plenty of twists, turns, and symbolism surrounding the number three.
Many White Lotus fans were already speculating that this bumper series might include more than one death, and of course, White didn’t disappoint.
After all, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) had previously warned that bad things ‘come in threes’.

Ever since the show first aired, the internet has been alight with wild fan theories about who dies, who survives, and what causes the final shootout.
In the end, with was Rick Hatchett (Walton Goggins) who kicked off a string of deaths following a tragic shootout with resort owner Jim Hollinger (who turned about to be his father after all) and Gaitok.
His girlfriend Chelsea also got caught in the crossfire and died.
