White House Works To Prevent Israeli Military Incursion Into Gaza

A general view of the White House in Washington

The White House has confirmed that senior US and Israeli officials are holding a virtual meeting today to address concerns over a potential military incursion into Gaza's Rafah. The Biden administration is actively working to dissuade the Israeli government from launching a large-scale operation in the densely populated city.

White House press secretary emphasized the need for dialogue before any military action, stating that understanding the Israeli government's plans is crucial. The meeting will also explore alternative strategies to address the Hamas threat.

This virtual meeting comes after a previously scheduled in-person meeting was canceled by Israel following the US's decision not to block a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

President Biden to Host Scaled-Down Iftar Dinner Amid Gaza Crisis

President Joe Biden is set to host a significantly scaled-down iftar dinner at the White House tomorrow to mark Ramadan. However, several invitees have declined to attend, expressing frustration with the administration's stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Vice President Kamala Harris, national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and a select group of White House aides will join less than a dozen guests at the intimate gathering. The dinner aims to provide an opportunity for attendees to directly engage with the president and voice their concerns regarding the conflict.
