White House Farm viewers left 'gripped' by 'horrific' scenes based on real murders

White House Farm began on Wednesday night, and viewers confessed finding the new take on the real-life murders both "horrific" and "chilling".

The new six-part series looks into the fateful night in August 1985, when five members of a family were murdered in their home.

Daughter Sheila was initially accused of killing her parents, two young sons and then herself, but it was her brother Jeremy Bamber who would later be accused and convicted of the murders and framing his adoptive sister.

The new drama follows the investigation into the tragic event, through research, accounts and interviews.

Viewers tuned in on Wednesday night, and were immediately left with "goosebumps" over the scenes.

From scenes prior to the crime to the immediate fallout, viewers found the episode "chilling".

Some of the more "horrific" scenes saw the police officers discover the bodies of the victims, who all sustained gun shot wounds.

In one difficult moment, an officer discovered Sheila's young twin sons dead in their beds.

Towards the end of the episode, there was speculation over the case as detectives remained at the scene of the crime.

Bamber was seen to blame his sister as he was comforted by family members, including the young boys' father.

Knowing what was still to come, viewers took to Twitter to share their reactions to the true crime series.

One fan said: "I remember this case from the 80s....chilling doesn’t even begin to describe it."

Another tweeted: "I can’t imagine being that copper that saw the children dead in bed... how horrific! I’m gripped!"

A third agreed: " #WhiteHouseFarm gripping so far. How horrific though."

This was echoed by a fourth fan who said: "Since this show started, I haven't moved or spoke! Gripping & chilling."

White House Farm continues at 9pm next Wednesday on ITV.
