The White House has disavowed the violence and burning of an American flag that took place during anti-Israel protests this week. The incidents occurred while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was addressing Congress on Wednesday.
National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, stated that the White House condemns any violence in protest activities. He emphasized that peaceful protest is a First Amendment right and fully supported by the administration. Kirby acknowledged the strong views surrounding the situation in Gaza and recognized that some protesters hold opposing views to President Biden's policies.
Kirby highlighted the importance of democracy, stating that differing opinions are a fundamental aspect of the political process. However, he made it clear that resorting to violence, burning the American flag, or removing it from a U.S. government site is unacceptable. The administration unequivocally condemns such actions.
