The White House issued a statement on Saturday denouncing any attempts at foreign interference in American elections. This comes after the Trump campaign reported being hacked by Iran.
A spokesperson from the US National Security Council reiterated the Biden-Harris Administration's strong condemnation of any foreign government or entity that tries to meddle in the US electoral process or undermine confidence in democratic institutions.
Regarding the specific allegations made by the Trump campaign, the National Security Council deferred to the Justice Department for further investigation. The White House emphasized that it takes any reports of such activities very seriously.
Earlier on Saturday, Politico disclosed that it had received emails from an anonymous account containing documents from within Donald Trump's campaign operation.
While the Trump campaign attributed the hack to Iran, it remains uncertain whether the country was actually involved in the incident.
