During a closed-door lunch meeting with GOP senators, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles addressed various topics, including Elon Musk's role in the administration, which has been a source of concern among Republicans on Capitol Hill.
According to Senator Josh Hawley, Wiles provided insights into Musk's responsibilities, highlighting that he reports directly to President Trump rather than Cabinet secretaries. The workflow was described as Musk working closely with the president, who then collaborates with the Cabinet secretaries.
Senator Tommy Tuberville shared that Wiles elaborated on Musk's procedures, hiring practices, team organization, and future plans within the administration.

On the subject of budget negotiations, Wiles did not delve into specifics regarding the budget blueprint and the reconciliation of House and Senate Republicans' differing approaches. Both chambers must reach a consensus on a single blueprint to advance Trump's broader agenda through the budget process, enabling a party-line passage in the Senate.
Following the meeting, Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated that modifications would be necessary to the House bill. Senator Hawley emphasized the need for permanency in addressing the expiring 2017 tax law, which Thune echoed by stating that changes were essential to the House plan.
