Which stadiums will England play at during World Cup 2022 in Qatar?

England will be hoping to finally get over the line in the 2022 Qatar World Cup after two near misses in the past four years. In order to do that, Gareth Southgate's men will have to perform to their best in a number of different stadiums across the Middle Eastern country.

But where will the Three Lions be performing when the tournament kicks off last this month?

Khalifa International Stadium (England vs Iran)

This stadium was built in Doha in 1976 and it has been renovated in time for the winter World Cup. It has hosted high profile football matches before, acting as the host for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final that saw Liverpool beat Flamengo 1-0.

It holds 40,000 people and is set to be the home for five matches in the upcoming tournament. England would be making a swift return to the Khalifa International Stadium if they finish as the runner-up of their group as they would be taking on the winners in Group A on December 3.

Al Bayt Stadium (England vs USA)

The Al Bayt Stadium is one of the arenas that is very much fresh off the block. It was opened in 2021 to host the 2021 Arab Cup, in preparation for the country's World Cup coverage. It can hold 60,000 people but the top tier of the stadium is set to be removed after the World Cup, taking the capacity down to 32,000. England would return to this arena if they were to win their group and it could also house their quarter-final clash, if they get that far!

Ahmed bin Ali Stadium (Wales vs England)

Another new build, the Al Rayyan was formed in 2020. It was built over the old home of Al Rayyan SC and shoud hold around 40,000 spectators for the World Cup. However, like the Al Bayt Stadium, it is also seeing its capacity reduced significantly following the conclusion of the

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan opened in 2020 and was built in place of the old home of Al Rayyan SC. It is set to hold around 40,000 fans for the World Cup, before it is reduced by almost half following the tournament’s conclusion.

Last 16 and beyond

There are no guarantees in football but even the most pessimistic of England fans would not expect the Three Lions to crash out at such an early stage. The Al Bayt Stadium or the Khalifa International Stadium will host their expected last-16 clash. If they progress beyond that, the likes of Harry Kane could be walking out on the Lusail Iconic Stadium pitch. Built in 2021, the stadium holds 80,000 people and is already scheduled to host the final of the World Cup. It cost approximately $767 million to fund and is one of Qatar's most impressive sporting landmarks.
