Thousands of demonstrations are held each year across London, from pro-Palestine rallies to environmental protests to inheritance tax demonstrations.
This weekend is going to be no exception as there is a major protest planned in support of women. It follows an event on Saturday January 25 when thousands marched through central London in support of oppressed women worldwide. Speakers included award-winning activist Patsy Stevenson as well as Camille Kumar, managing director of Abortion Support Network, and Sabby Dhalu, co-convenor of Stand Up to Racism and joint secretary of Unite Against Fascism.
The past weekend also included a Pro-Palestinian static rally organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, just as Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
The future of pro-Palestinian protests is uncertain as Palestinians are continuing to be killed, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Here is everything you need to know about the planned demonstration for this weekend.
Let Women Speak
A Let Women Speak event is planned for Saturday. The event is described by its organisers as a global movement that creates space for women to foreground women.
Those wanting to participate are asked to gather at Reformers’ Tree in Hyde Park from 1pm.
The event, which is focused on free speech for women, will then move on to Speakers’ Corner at Marble Arch.
Speakers can talk about “whatever they like”, according to the event page and there is no charge to attend. Those planning to come are encouraged to make donation and confirm attendance on the event’s website.
Men are encouraged to attend but women will have priority when it comes to the speeches.
These speaker events take place in London every month and, if you can’t make it this time, you will have further opportunities to attend on February 23, March 30 and April 27.
According to the Marble Arch website, police will be in attendance as previous events have attracted large numbers of supporters and counter-protesters.
