Heathrow airport has cancelled more than 100 flights on the day of the Queen’s funeral on Monday September 19 to avoid noise during the two minutes of silence.

The airport is disrupting 15% of the 12,000 flights that are set to either land or take off on Monday.

A Heathrow spokesman said: “Heathrow, Nats (the air traffic control provider) and airlines are supporting the ceremonial aspects for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey and the committal service at Windsor Castle on Monday.

“As a mark of respect, operations to and from the airport will be subject to appropriate changes in order to avoid noise disruption at certain locations at specific times on Monday.”

Which flights will be cancelled on Monday?

The Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey will end with a two-minute silence at 11.55 am on Monday.

Flights that were due to take off or land 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after this time will be cancelled.

British Airways has cancelled 100 short-haul flights while Virgin Atlantic has cancelled four flights.

Heathrow Airport said that passengers affected by these cancellations will be contacted directly by their airlines, which will let them know what their options are.

Passengers who have been told that their flight has been cancelled are advised to not travel to the airport.

Heathrow will also have additional staff in the terminals to advise passengers affected by the changes.

A statement from the airport said: “We apologise in advance for the inconvenience some passengers will experience as a result of these exceptional circumstances.”
