In May, FIFA announced its list of 129 match officials for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
35 referees from 29 countries have been chosen to take charge of the tournament’s 64 matches and among those 36 are two Premier League officials.
Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor will be joined by 69 assistant referees and 24 video match officials (VMOs) – with VAR in use at the World Cup once again.

The English referees will be joined by assistant referees Simon Bennett, Gary Beswick, Stuart Burt and Adam Nunn for the tournament.
For Oliver, it will be his first major international tournament appearance having previously refereed at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland in 2019. It's a second major international tournament appointment for Taylor, who previously refereed in last summer's UEFA EURO 2020 competition.
During the 2018 competition held in Russia, there was no English referee appointed for the first time in 80 years.
History will be made this year as referees Stephanie Frappart of France, Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan, along with assistants Neuza Back of Brazil, Karen Diaz Medina of Mexico and Kathyrn Nesbitt of the United States become the first women to officiate at a FIFA men’s tournament.
