Where will the Queen be buried – and will she be near Prince Philip?

The Queen has been lying in state at Westminster Hall since Wednesday, September 14, with thousands of people queuing to file past her coffin and pay their final respects.

She will be moved from Westminster Hall towards her final resting place on Monday, September 19.

After a state funeral service at Westminster Abbey on Monday at 11am, the late monarch will be laid to rest in a private burial the same evening.

Here's what you need to know about the Queen's burial including if she will be laid to rest beside husband Prince Philip who passed away in April 2021.

Where will the Queen be buried?

Queen Elizabeth II will be buried in the King George VI memorial chapel, in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on Monday, September 19.

The chapel, which was built between 1968 and 1969 pays tribute to the Queen's father King George VI and is the final resting place for many members of the royal family.

The Queen's coffin will be laid to rest alongside her father, the Queen Mother and the ashes of her younger sister Princess Margaret.

The burial service will be entirely private. It will take place at 7.30pm on Monday and be conducted by the Dean of Windsor.

The earth which will be scattered on the coffin will be gathered from the royal mausoleum at Frogmore.

Will the Queen be buried with Prince Philip?

Queen Elizabeth II will be buried alongside her husband Prince Philip, who passed away last April.

Prince Philip was was temporarily laid to rest in the Royal Vault, a crypt beneath the St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, on April 17, 2021.

His coffin will be moved to King George VI's memorial chapel to join that of his beloved wife of over 73 years, following her funeral.

The vault is also where King George's VI's coffin was originally placed after his death in 1952, and then transferred to the chapel after its completion in March 1969. It is the final resting place for 25 members of the Royal Family.
