After thousands have paid their respects by visiting the Queen lying in state and a big state funeral Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest. The Queen, who reigned for 70 years, died aged 96 on Thursday, September 8.

Since then there have been many formal ceremonies, including the lowering of flags to half-mast across the UK, King Charles III being proclaimed King, and members of her family standing vigil around her body. Many thousands of people have queued up to see the Queen lying in state at Westminster Abbey and paid their respects.

On Monday, September 19 the Queen's state funeral will take place with many global leaders from across the world attending the funeral. Her body and coffin will then be taken from Westminster Abbey to Windsor Castle.

The Queen will then be buried at St George's Chapel, which is within the Windsor Castle estate, and is also where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married. Currently, the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, is not buried there.

Instead he is buried in the Royal Vault, which is also in St Georges Chapel, and he will be moved to be closer to the Queen. Normally St George's Chapel is open to visitors and is included in tickets for the tour of Windsor Castle however currently all Royal properties are closed due to the Queen's death.

Windsor Castle is the estate the Queen moved to permanently for the last years of her life. She died at Balmoral in Scotland, which is believed to have been her favourite estate.

Two thousand guests have been invited to attend the state funeral and members of the public can line the procession route as the Queen is taken from Westminster Abbey and to Windsor Castle. All major TV channels will also be broadcasting the funeral live.
