Where to watch the House of the Dragon Premiere

Fans of fantasy series Game of Thrones won’t have to wait much longer for the prequel House of the Dragon to air. The star-studded premiere will arrive in London tonight and can also be streamed for fans globally.

The new show is set two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, focusing instead on the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. Much like the original show, this outing into Westeros is set to be just as treacherous as the last.

London's Leicester Square will play host to the premiere tonight (August 15, 2022), with the red carpet event kicking off at 6pm. Fans unable to attend won't miss out as all the action can be watched in a live YouTube stream too.

Sky, home of all things Thrones in the UK, tweeted that there would be red carpet action, cast interviews, and “dragons… lots of dragons”. They shared a gif featuring former Doctor Who Matt Smith with his Targaryen blonde locks, giving a sneak peek of the dragon fire yet to come.

House of the Dragon is a HBO Max exclusive in America, airing only on the broadcaster's streaming platform. This is not available in the UK so the Targaryen's home will be Sky Atlantic and subscription service Now.

Starting on Monday, August 22, 2022, the 10-part series will air weekly so there’s no binge-watching this epic tale until all the episodes are out in October. For viewers on Now TV, the entertainment pass will be needed which costs £9.99 per month.

George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood novel is the basis for this prequel, delving into ancient Westeros history with the Targaryen war. Notoriously close Targaryen bloodlines are torn apart as the battle for the Iron Throne heats up.

English actress Emma D’Arcy will take on the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen, the King’s firstborn, whose claim to the throne was dashed when her father’s second wife gave birth to boys. She is pitted against Olivia Cooke ’s Alicent Hightower, who is determined to see her sons on the Iron Throne.

These powerful women will be joined by Paddy Constantine as King Viserys I, a kindly king, as well as Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen. Rounding out the cast is Nurse Jackie's Eve Best, The Hobbit's Graham McTavish and relatively unknown Australian actress Milly Alcock.
