Where to find the Wrench in Resident Evil 4 remake

The Resident Evil 4 remake is finally here, plunging gamers once more into a world of survival horror. A reimagined and rebuilt version of the fourth chapter in the hit franchise, the video game puts players back in the shoes of Leon Kennedy.

The former rookie cop is tasked with rescuing the president’s daughter from a remote European village teeming with violent locals and eerie cultists. Also making a return for the remake is one of the franchise’s most notorious villains, the Regenerator.

Back with a vengeance following the 2005 original, these tall, grey, inhuman enemies are seemingly invincible and can sprout new limbs, meaning players can waste tons of ammo trying to take them down. Unfortunately, there’s no getting around these horrifying enemies, Leon is going to have to face them in order to save Ashley and progress through the story.

Players first cross paths with a Regenerator on the Island in Chapter 13, as Leon attempts to rescue the first daughter from her temporary captivity. To do this, he has to find a keycard located somewhere in the building and upgrade in order to free Ashley, but that’s not as simple as it sounds.

Once the keycard is found and Leon reaches the objective marker at the Incubation Labs, he’ll find a grate is covering the keycard reader needed to upgrade the card a third and final time. To access the reader, Leon mentions that he’ll need to find a wrench to open the grate.

Here, we explain where to find the Wrench in the Resident Evil 4 remake:

A note found to the side of the keycard reader says that the Wrench was eaten by a Regenerator that broke free, luckily the monster in question is close by, just South of the grate that the Wrench is needed for inside one of the purple incubation tanks. Next to the note players will also find a Biosensor Scope, an X-Ray scope that can be attached to a rifle or submachine gun that shows enemy heat signatures.

This attachment is most useful when attached to a powerful rifle such as the Stingray. Players should aim through this scope towards the Regenerators in the tanks, where they will see the Wrench inside the stomach of the monster that ate it.

Players will also see three parasites inside the Regenerator, which each need to be shot in order to take down the enemy for good. Once the three parasites have been destroyed – players can take out two at once with the correct angle – Leon can collect the Wrench from its corpse.

Now players can return to the keycard reader in the northern room and use the wrench to open the grate, allowing them to upgrade the keycard to the required level. Unfortunately, it’s going to take a bit of time to upgrade and a horde of enemies will arrive to attack Leon once the card is inserted, so players should prepare for a fight.

Players may want to avoid using any grenades in this fight and be precise with their aiming, as destroying the remaining incubation tanks will awaken the Regenerators inside. If this happens, they will drop some treasures once they’re killed, so this may be worthwhile if players have the ammo to spare.

Once the Level 3 Keycard has been created, players can now backtrack towards the beginning of this area and use the keycard to unlock the room where Ashley is being held.
