Where Titans QB Will Levis ranked analytically in Week 13

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis has had a mixed bag of results since taking over as the team’s full-time starter in Week 8.

Statistically, he’s done well, accounting for 1,266 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions while earning a passer rating of 86.9 over six games.

Even more impressive are the flashes of brilliance that you can only see when you turn on the tape and actually watch him play.

Levis possesses rare arm talent that is still raw, yet very intriguing. He has already shown that he’s legitimately capable of making every throw on the football field.

Whether he needs to thread the needle in tight coverage, rip a laser to the other side of the field, or drop a deep bomb in a bucket, Levis can do it all.

Despite those highs, he’s also had his fair share of low moments, which is to be expected for any rookie quarterback, especially one who is surrounded by mediocre talent, at best.

When looking at some of his analytical numbers through advanced metrics, he hasn’t exactly been a world-beater. In last Sunday’s loss to the Colts, Levis ranked 15th or lower in every category outside of air yards, per RBSDM.

While those numbers certainly aren’t ideal, some context is needed, as it’s important to remember that he’s playing behind a makeshift offensive line and throwing to a bunch of subpar receivers, outside of DeAndre Hopkins.

It’s hard to imagine things realistically getting better around the Kentucky product over the final five weeks, but the experience he’s getting right now will be invaluable for his long-term development.

Having said all of that, let’s take a look at where Levis ranked analytically in Week 13.

Glossary

Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK
  • Expected Points Added (EPA): “EPA measures how well a team performs compared to their expectation on a play-by-play basis. EPA and EPA per Play, along with other stats using EPA, can help us evaluate team and player performance. EPA serves as a better tool of measurement for team/player performance because it takes into account that not all yards, touchdowns, and turnovers are equal.”
  • Completion Percentage Over Expectation (CPOE): “Not all completion percentages are built the same way, as throwing shorter passes to more open receivers generally leads to a higher completion percentage. CPOE adjusts for that, using pass depth and receiver separation to determine the likelihood of an average quarterback making any given throw.”
  • Success Rate (SR): “SR is an efficiency metric that determines the success of a play. A play is successful when it gains at least 40 percent of yards-to-go on first down, 60 percent of yards-to-go on second down, and 100 percent of yards-to-go on third or fourth down.”
