The Los Angeles Rams offense has been steady this season despite not lighting up the scoreboard every week. Following a blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, the Rams are near the top of the league in passing and rushing EPA.
According to rbsdm.com, Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ aerial attack are averaging 0.089 EPA per play on dropbacks, which is eighth in the NFL. On the other hand, the Rams are 18th in dropback success rate (44.6%), proving that the passing game still has some room for improvement in the coming weeks.
Cooper Kupp has now played two games since returning from a stint on injured reserve because of a hamstring ailment. The All-Pro wideout should help the Rams improve through the air moving forward, along with rookie Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell emerging as fantastic ancillary options for Stafford.
Meanwhile, the running game came to life in the victory against the Cardinals. After Kyren Williams rushed for a career-best 158 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts on Sunday, the Rams are now sixth-best in rush EPA (0.012) and fourth-best in rush success rate (45.3%).
Before the season, Sean McVay and the Rams made a concerted effort to mold themselves into more of a physical team on the offensive side of the ball. Drafting Steve Avila in the second round, starting Coleman Shelton at center, and now starting Kevin Dotson at right guard has helped the Rams improve in the trenches tremendously.
As an overall offense, the Rams rank seventh in total EPA per play at 0.061. Even though the Rams are currently producing 23 points per game (12th in the NFL) through the first six weeks, their EPA numbers suggest they are trending in the right direction offensively.
