The first ever Coronation Concert is happening tonight (May 7), in the grounds of Windsor Castle, the royal residence in Berkshire. It’s not only the first ever concert to celebrate the coronation, but it’s the first event of its kind ever to be held at Windsor Castle too.
A host of stars from the worlds of pop, classical music, opera, world music and theatre are performing, all in front of the new King, Charles III, and Queen Camilla. Months of preparation have gone into the show, which is happening on a huge circular stage on the East Lawn with the castle in the background.
It follows the star-studded concert that followed the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Buckingham Palace, which happened last year and featured a host of world renowned artists, including Queen, Diana Ross and Elton John.

A 74-piece classical ensemble formed from the strings of the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra and woodwind, brass and percussion sections from the Bands of the Household Division
The concert is also being screened live in places like St James’s Park in London, and it’s being beamed out on TV to over 100 countries around the world. 20,000 people are in the crowd, having won tickets in a lottery system.
The concert is also being broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
