Where the Dolphins’ 2022 rookie class ranks athletically

The Miami Dolphins walked away from the 2022 NFL draft with four prospects that had varying levels of production in their collegiate careers.

General manager Chris Grier selected Georgia linebacker Channing Tindall in the third round, Texas Tech wide receiver Erik Ezukanma in the fourth and, in the seventh, he took California linebacker Cameron Goode and Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson.

One of the first things that everyone does after the draft is try to compare draft classes with other teams around the league. Looking at experts’ grades could be one way to do so, but here, we’re going to take a look at the athleticism.

To do so, we’re using Pro Football Network’s Kent Lett Platte’s Relative Athletic Score or RAS. This model grades a player on a scale of 0-to-10 based on a number of factors and compares them to others.

This year, the Dolphins’ draft class received an average score of 8.33, which was good enough to rank them No. 10 in the league. They ranked just ahead of the Carolina Panthers (8.30) and just behind the Cincinnati Bengals (8.46).

Looking at the group, Tindall is clearly the most athletic when compared to other players at his position. When you look closer at how he scored, it’s pretty impressive, as his 9.69 ranked him as the 77th most athletic linebacker of the 2,419 that qualified since 1987.

Here’s a breakdown of his RAS.

Goode also tested pretty well. His 9.45 was 133rd out of the same group of 2,419.

Thompson and Ezukanma weren’t nearly as impressive. The former Wildcat ranked as the 249th quarterback out of 866, and the wideout ranked 827th out of 2,785.

Athleticism isn’t everything, but it’s certainly a big part of excelling at the next level.
