Daisy Edgar-Jones has spoken about the importance of being resilient as an actor and not getting complacent.
The 24-year-old’s star is on the rise following her critically acclaimed turn as Marianne Sheridan in the miniseries Normal People but she isn’t letting it cloud her judgement.
Speaking to Elle UK, for which she has posed for a special digital cover, she said she has to make “brave choices” when it comes to her work.
She told the magazine: “As an actor, you have to be resilient. If I have a bad day at work, it’s judged by a lot of people, and I have to live with it forever. But I still have to make brave choices to have a shot at making something remarkable.”
The actress will next be seen starring in movie Where the Crawdads Sing, based on the book with the same name.
Edgar-Jones plays Kya, a young woman who is abandoned as a child and grows up in total isolation.
Her character lives deep in the marshlands of 1950s and ’60s North Carolina in this part coming-of-age story, part crime thriller.
For the part, the London-born actress worked with a dialect coach on the North Carolina accent.
She also took guidence from a movement coach who taught her how a child who had survived barefoot in the swampy terrain would move within it as an adult.
The flick was produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company and Edgar-Jones gushed meeting the Oscar winner was a big moment for her.
“This is my second time doing a big book adaptation. I really should stop doing that to myself,” she told the publication.
“I grew up watching Reese so it was a big moment. She has such an amazing eye for complicated characters and stories that are predominantly female-led.”
Where the Crawdads Sing will be available to stream on Netflix from July 22.
