Tiger Woods made his first PGA Tour start since the 2023 Masters at last week’s Genesis Invitational, the site of his first career Tour appearance. However, he was forced to withdraw during the second round due to illness.
At the Hero World Challenge, Woods set a goal to play once a month this season. That got us thinking, if he is going to tee it up in March before he heads to Augusta, Georgia, for the year’s first major, what is the most likely spot we see him play next?
The first four events in March take place in Florida, starting with the Cognizant Classic — formally known as the Honda Classic.
Here’s a look at the Tour’s Florida Swing and Woods’ history at each event.
Cognizant Classic
Dates: Feb. 29 – March 3
Starts: Five
Wins: None
Cuts made: Four
Top 10 finishes: One
Our thoughts: Woods has done well enough to make the weekend here, but not enough to win. It’d be surprising to see him play here.
Arnold Palmer Invitational
Dates: March 7-10
Starts: 18
Wins: Eight (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013)
Cuts made: 17
Top 10 finishes: 10
Our thoughts: Woods has won here eight times, so teeing it up at The King’s place wouldn’t be a huge surprise. However, it’s a long golf course and the wind is usually up. Major championship-type feel when it comes to scoring.
The Players
Dates: March 14-17
Starts: 19
Wins: Two (2001, 2013)
Cuts made: 19
Top 10 finishes: Five
Our thoughts: This one makes the most sense out of the four. He’s never missed a weekend at TPC Sawgrass and it’s the Tour’s flagship event.
Valspar Championship
Dates: March 21-24
Starts: One
Wins: None
Cuts made: One
Top 10 finishes: One
Our thoughts: This one seems the least likely. He’s only played here once, and while he did contend, you’d think he’d like to play in a larger event.
