Where Manchester United stand on further transfers in final week of summer window

Manchester United want to add at least two more players to their first-team squad in the final week of the summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag has already been backed with four new additions this summer, adding Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro to his squad.

United have spent just shy of £129.6m on new signings this summer, meaning they could break their record expenditure for a single transfer window if they do add to their squad in the final seven days.

Ten Hag is prioritising the addition of a new forward to his side, with the club set to launch a fresh bid for Ajax ace Antony, while the club are also stepping up their pursuit of a new back-up goalkeeper before deadline day.

United also have an interest in signing a new right-back and another central midfielder if possible, but are prepared to end the window without strengthening those positions if they can't be addressed.

United are preparing a fresh bid to sign Antony this week after the Brazilian forward made clear his intention to leave the Dutch club before deadline day.

Ten Hag earmarked the 22-year-old as his priority attacking target at the start of the transfer window, and Ajax are holding out for an offer of around €100million (£84.15m).

United remain interested in signing a back-up goalkeeper following a failed pursuit of Frankfurt shot-stopper Kevin Trapp. The German international confirmed on Thursday that he had received a written offer for a proposed move to Old Trafford but that he had rejected it.

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka remains of interest to the club after he rejected a loan move to United in January, as part of a swap-deal including Dean Henderson. United also considered moves for Karl Darlow and Daniel Bachmann earlier in the summer.

A proposed move for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is dead in the water following the acquisition of Casemiro, and there is no chance of him leaving the Catalan club while his wage deferral issue remains unresolved. The Dutch midfielder has made it clear all summer he wants to stay at Barcelona, and Xavi started him against Real Sociedad last weekend.

United are still keen to offload players before deadline day too. Eric Bailly joined Marseille on a season-long loan on Wednesday, while Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe missed the entirety of pre-season through injury and are deemed surplus to requirements.

Brandon Williams missed the entirety of pre-season through injury but is nearing a return to match fitness and is prepared to reassess his options when the January transfer window opens. Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be allowed to leave if an appropriate offer comes in but United don't want to make a significant loss on the £50m they invested in him three years ago.

James Garner has been made available for transfer and is valued by United at between £15million and £20m. There is plenty of Premier League interest in his signature, with Southampton and Everton both keen on a move.

Hannibal Mejbri is still set to leave the club on loan, and Amad is expected to follow suit if a new forward can be added to offset his departure. Facundo Pellistri saw his proposed loan exit dashed following a recent injury setback.
