The book is set in Atlantic City but unlike the novel the Netflix series was actually filmed in Manchester and Blackpool.

Creator Coben said: "[As well as Manchester], we also used Blackpool, while the book is set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Blackpool really looks a lot like Atlantic City!

"It's always a challenge to move things around."

Speaking about the locations, James Nesbitt, who plays Michael Broome, explained that Stay Close has a very strong sense of place and that the show's locations have brought "so much" to the story.

He said: "Obviously I love filming in Manchester."

Adding: "Morecambe Bay and Blackpool were amazing. Walking along the beach for six miles from Lytham to Blackpool was beautiful with the sun shining as the world started to open up after lockdown. It was quite an exciting time."
