Where is Oscar Cortes? Winger missing from Rangers squad vs Hearts

Kris Boyd has questioned Rangers’ recruitment strategy after the puzzling situation surrounding Oscar Cortes, describing the club’s transfer dealings as “baffling”.

Rangers are 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race going into their clash against Hearts on Sunday and have already had their hopes of winning domestic cup silverware ended by Queen’s Park last weekend.

Boyd has been vocal about wanting change at Rangers, highlighting the amount of money manager Philippe Clement has spent on transfers that have failed to make the desired impact.

Cortes is an example of player who is picking up a wage but contributing very little with the 21-year-old being reduced to just eight appearances this season.

“Philippe Clement has had the money to spend and spent it,” the former Rangers striker told Sky Sports.

“You look at, he brought in Bajrami not playing again today, that was a big summer signing. Oscar Cortes, where is he? Where is he? Propper, another what? One and a half, two million pounds spent, not playing today.

“I mean, you can go round the houses and make all the excuses you want, it is not good enough for Rangers for a period of time now and there’s been other times where managers, it’s been bad.

“Gio van Bronckhorst got Rangers to a Europa League final, won the Scottish Cup and was sacked probably for less.”
