Former X factor hopeful Cher Llloyd was just a 16-year-old teen from Malvern, Worcestershire when she made the brave choice of entering the 7th season of X-Factor.
Her memorable audition saw her deliver a unique performance of Soulja Boy's Turn My Swag On and as a result, she was placed with mentor Cheryl Tweedy.
Cher's time on X factor was plagued by reports of alleged backstage diva tantrums that saw her dubbed the "most hated teen" in Britain - with Louis Walsh even branding her “too big for her boots”.
The star embarked on a solo career in the US which saw her reach mainstream success and number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 with debut single ‘Want you back.
Public opinion wavered when mentor Cheryl Tweedy put Cher through to the live stages over Gamu Nhengu.
In an interview with Fabulous magazine in 2012, Cher said: “I was a beast! Everyone hated me.
"I was young and foolish. Part of me was trying to show I was strong enough to do it, and then I think it all got too much for me.
"I was angry with the way I was being edited and because of that I turned into this horrible person, with a terrible attitude.”
Things took a U-turn and only got worse when she was eliminated in the first round of the finals and went on to accuse mentor Cheryl of abandoning her.
When Cher was asked if she would ever consider a duet with her mentor, she accused Cheryl of using autotune and challenged her to sing live with her.
Far from impressed with Cher’s comments, Cheryl took to Twitter to voice her thoughts: “Be Careful who you kick on your way up. They kick you twice as hard on your way back down.. #unappreciationisugly."
Appearing on ITV’s daybreak, Cher backtracked on her comments after public backlash, "I just want to say sorry to her if she found that offensive. But at the end of the day, she is the person who got me to where I am today."
In an interview with GQ magazine, Cheryl suggested that Cher “needed to learn a lot”, and said her derogatory comment was “a slap in the face”.
Keeping all of this in mind, Cher was just a teenager when she was sprung into the limelight and a whirlpool of public hate.
Where is she now?
In 2013, Cher married hairdresser Craig Monk after less than a year of dating and settled down to start a family.
Cher distanced herself from her problematic image in recent years and returned to live in the UK as she became a first-time mum, welcoming baby daughter Delilah-Rae in 2018.
In 2020, Cher told The Guardian: "I’m mother to a little girl. I’ve released two albums and I’ve got a top 10 hit in America. I’m not ‘the most hated teen’, I’m 26 years old! We’ve moved on!"
She said: "I got married when I was 20, you know when you grow up and dream of that fairy tale, of course, we've had our ups and downs, but honestly it is like a fairy tale with me and him.
"We lived in Los Angeles for a while, that was like a dream, fortunately, we went over I had one suitcase and I thought I was just going for a bit of promo, and we ended up staying there about three or four years."
As for her reputation, Cher says that is something she's trying to take ownership of and work past.
"Looking back I can see why people thought I was a nightmare and I'm totally embarrassed," she told the Guardian.
She's now hoping for a second chance at success as her singles None of My Business and M.I.A were positively received.
And in terms of where she's at with Cheryl - the former buddies did exchange well wishes upon their respective marriages and in 2016, Cher told Loose Women they'd buried the hatchet 'ages ago'.
