The Miami Dolphins have finished their first week of organized team activities as they gear up for minicamp and training camp later in the summer.
During this time, there are a lot of conversations surrounding the best players in the league at each position. Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness recently released their offensive guard rankings ahead of the 2023 season. While there are 64 starting guards in the league, McGuinness ranked only 32, so it’s no surprise that the Dolphins only had one representative in Robert Hunt, who came in at No. 17.
Here’s what McGuiness wrote about Hunt:
“Hunt has improved every season since entering the NFL as a second-round pick out of Louisiana in 2020. He set career highs in 2022 with both a 74.6 PFF pass-blocking grade and a 74.5 PFF run-blocking grade.”
Despite being moved between guard and tackle early in his career, Hunt has found a home at right guard, and he’s made it clear with his play that that’s the right spot for him.
Considering the struggles at right tackle, Hunt’s growth and consistency has been key for Miami’s offense and will likely be again.
As for Liam Eichenberg, the Dolphins left guard who didn’t make the list, he’s been one of PFF’s worst-graded guards. He’s struggled at every spot he’s played, and that’s why Miami has brought in some potential competition for him in Dan Feeney, Isaiah Wynn and Ryan Hayes.
