‘Where do you start?’ - Roy Keane gives verdict on Manchester United’s title chances

Roy Keane has dismissed the idea that Manchester United will be competing with Liverpool and Manchester City for the title next season.

After recording their worst ever Premier League return last campaign, Erik ten Hag has been tasked with installing a long-term rebuild of the club. A number of out of contract players have already left with Tyrell Malacia coming in as the Dutchman’s first signing.

A deal for Christian Eriksen is near while United are finally closing in on a deal for Frenkie de Jong. The club has a number of promising academy hopefuls coming through too, many of whom have been taken on United’s pre-season tour.

However, this is not enough to convince Keane that the club will be competing with City and Liverpool this term, despite acknowledging that United have been the only team to break their top-two finishes in recent years.

When asked about his former club by Sky Bet, he said: “Where do you want to start? The manager will no doubt be given money to spend, the recruits, four or five experienced players have left the club but I think that was a good thing.

“But I still don’t see United competing with Liverpool and Man City, not just yet.” United face Liverpool in a pre-season friendly in Bangkok at 2pm this afternoon.
