Obviously, the answer to that headline is that Bill Belichick is the GOAT, absolutely in the pantheon of all-time great sports coaches and probably has a spot on the Mount Rushmore of those to helm franchises.
But we have to dive into the numbers a lot deeper, as we did with the retiring Nick Saban (a longtime Belichick buddy!) now that Belichick is out as head coach with the New England Patriots. Although he may keep coaching — as is his reported desire — it’s still a good time as any to look back at his numbers and see where he ranks.
Let’s dive in:
Super Bowls: First
His six titles are the most all time, with Steelers legend Chuck Noll second with four.
Regular-season wins: Third
He’s at 302, behind George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328).
Most wins (including playoffs): Second
He’s coming for Shula’s record, presumably:
Most head coaching wins all-time
(incl. playoffs)Don Shula 347
Bill Belichick 333
George Halas 324
Andy Reid 279

Yeas in the playoffs: Tied for first
He’s been in the postseason 19 times, tied with Shula. Andy Reid and Tom Landry are right behind him with 18 appearances apiece.
Playoff wins: First
He has 31, way ahead of No. 2: Andy Reid, with 22.
Playoff games: First
He’s been in 44, with Reid second with 38.
