Swansea City are facing a hugely important summer transfer window - and which way will it turn out?
A number of signings have been successes in recent times, Jamal Lowe, Matt Grimes and Jamie Paterson among them, without the need to fork out huge transfer fees.
But the same cannot be said about Graham Potter's only transfer window in charge of the Swans during the 2018-2019 season where he spent more than £6million on six permanent signings. The only one still at the club is Yan Dhanda, who has struggled to feature in Russell Martin`s side this season.
Potter did a lot of good work with the Swans, helping develop a number of talented youngsters.
But what became of his signings? We take a look....
Cameron Carter-Vickers
A loan signing from Tottenham, Carter-Vickers was popular with the fans due to his calming presence and leadership in the back four. He made 30 appearances in the 2018-2019 season and the Swans attempted to secure Carter-Vickers' services on loan again the following season. However he instead signed for Stoke City.
Still officially a Tottenham player today, the 24-year-old has gone on another four loan spells since his time in Wales Stadium, with Stoke, Luton, Bournemouth and currently Celtic.
Yan Dhanda
He signed on a free transfer from Liverpool. Dhanda made a blistering start to his Swansea career after scoring the winner as a substitute on his debut against Sheffield United with his first touch in August 2018. However, it wasn't until the 2020-2021 season that Dhanda managed to earn a regular starting spot, making 26 appearances in Steve Cooper's side which eventually lost to Brentford in the play-off final.
But this season has been a different story, with Dhanda failing to feature in Russell Martin's team, making only three league appearances. With his contract expiring this summer, his future at the club remains unclear.
Joel Asoro
Swansea paid Sunderland £2million for striker Asoro in July 2018 and he was expected to be the team's talisman going into the 2018/2019 season under Potter. But things turned out very differently and Asoro went on to make only 14 appearances for the Swans that season without hitting the back of the net once. The 22-year-old was loaned out the following years to Dutch outfit FC Groningen and Genoa in Italy before moving on a free transfer to Swedish club Djurgårdens in February 2021.
Bersant Celina
He spent two seasons in SA1 having signed from Manchester City, making a total of 73 appearances. Popular with supporters, he will always be remembered for the strike which put Swansea 2-0 up in the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City before eventually losing 3-2. Celina, 25, was bought by French side Dijon where he struggled to play regularly and is now on loan at Ipswich Town.
Declan John
It's fair to say John's career never truly got started with the Swans, only making 11 appearances between 2018 and 2020. The Cardiff City academy graduate had been signed from Rangers in August 2018 as full-back cover. He was loaned out to Sunderland during his time with the Swans before eventually joining League One side Bolton permanently in 2021.
Josh Gould
Signed on a free transfer from Cymru South side Taffs Well, Taunton native and goalkeeper Gould has spent time in Swansea's Under-23s set-up and is highly regarded by staff, so much so he signed a new two-year contract in January 2020. Gould is currently on loan at National League South outfit Ebbsfleet United. With Welsh Under-21s goalkeeper Lewis Webb also in the U23s set-up, both keepers could be set to battle it out for the number one shirt in the coming years.
Barrie McKay
Signed for an undisclosed fee from Nottingham Forest in July 2018, Mckay struggled for game time and only managed 37 appearances in his three years at SA1 before joining Fleetwood Town on loan for the 2020-2021 season. He signed for Hearts at the expiration of his contract, where he is currently plying his trade, making 31 appearances this term and scoring two goals in the process.
