When you can see the Red Arrows in Swansea at the Wales Airshow

It's now just hours until one of the highlights of Swansea's events calendar returns for 2023 - the Wales Airshow. And, as always, the most anticipated part of the show is the Red Arrows, who will be filling the skies of Swansea Bay in multi-colour as they put on spectacular shows over two days.

The air show event takes place along Swansea Bay on Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2, and people will be flocking to the beach and the surrounding area to find the best spot to watch the aircraft put on some great displays. But when will the stars of the show take to the skies?

You can expect to see them at 5pm on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday, according to current timings, which can sometimes be affected by the weather. The Red Arrows are the RAF's top "aerobatic team," a close-knit group of highly-skilled RAF pilots who fly Hawk fast-jets in close formations and eye-catching arrangements, supported by a team of engineers and operational staff on the ground. They're currently in their 59th season and have flown almost 5,000 displays over the years. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.

Their trademark Diamond Nine shape and combination of close formations and precision flying have made them a massive hit at the event since its inception. Based in RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, they had flown almost 5,000 displays by the beginning of 2021.

Swansea Council cabinet member, Robert Francis-Davies said: “We’re delighted that The Red Arrows will be flying over Swansea again. They’re a huge draw and help illustrate why our armed forces are so important. The airshow contributes millions of pounds to our local economy. We thank businesses and residents for their patience with the necessary road closures and to all traders for their contribution.

“The airshow will be a fantastic weekend. As Swansea’s reputation grows as a top class venue for big events, this show’s a great partner for others such as the returning IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea and World Triathlon Para Series Swansea.”
