When will the snow stop in Leeds? Met Office confirm exact time with hour-by-hour forecast

Hours of heavy snowfall and icy conditions are expected today and on Friday - leaving many people wondering when is it going to stop?

Residents in areas of Leeds woke up to a white sheet outside their homes this morning. Icy conditions and snow have since caused significant disruption with some school closures in place.

The Met Office issued amber weather warning from 3pm until 4am on Friday, and a yellow weather warning from 7am today until 4pm tomorrow. A number of public transport journeys have been delayed or cancelled, and hundreds of school pupils were told to stay at home as schools have been forced to close.

The latest snow maps issued from the Met Office show a white and grey snow cloud over most of Leeds and Yorkshire from the early hours of Thursday leading until Friday. Up to 4mm of snow could cover the region every hours, causing treacherous conditions as the wintry weather continues.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert, said: "An amber warning for snow has been issued for the high ground running north in the centre of northern England as snow redevelops through the course of Thursday and persist until early Friday. Here we could see up to 40cm of snow accompanied by strong winds causing blizzard conditions."

Snowfall in Leeds will continue throughout the rest of the afternoon and into tonight. A mixture of snow and sleet will continue to fall until 10am on Friday morning before some sunny spells are expected.
