When will the heatwave end? London weather forecast for June

After a stubborn few weeks of cool and rainy weather, London has finally welcomed a warming sun and blue skies.

Over the past weekend temperatures soared to above 30C in the capital, with health warnings being issued across various parts of the country.

The heatwave is expected to continue for the next few days before easing early next week.

Here is a look at what the weather forecast for London will bring in the coming days.

What is the weather in London this week?

The week kicked off with a sunny Monday, with a high of 27C and a low of 18C. The Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms as it expected the odd shower in the capital.

Tuesday June 13 reached a high of 28C and a low of 15C, before the temperature returned to a high of 27C on Wednesday June 14, according to the Met Office.

From Thursday June 16 to Sunday June 18, the highest temperature in London will be 26C. However, while Thursday and Friday are due to be sunny, Saturday and Sunday will be predominantly cloudy.

The Met Office has also warned hayfever sufferers that their itchy eyes and sneezing are likely to continue for several weeks. Spokesman Grahame Madge told the PA news agency: “We are now getting into grass season. With it being so dry across the UK, it means grasses are able to shed pollen.

“For sufferers, hay fever has been a feature of the last few days and will continue to be a feature for sufferers over the next few days and weeks.

“(Sufferers will) only get a respite when the grass has shed all the available pollen or if we get significant rainfall, which will effectively wash the pollen out of the atmosphere.”

When will the heatwave end?

Talking about the heatwave, Dan Stroud, a meteorologist from the Met Office, explained: “The weather will try and settle down on Tuesday and mid-week. But it will maintain this well-above-average temperature. Most of the UK will meet heatwave criteria.”

While temperatures will get slightly cooler towards the end of the week, they are expected to pick back up by June 23 with temperatures “more likely to be above average in general” until July 8.
