When will Premier League's TV games be announced as Newcastle United prepare for big fixture reveal?

Thursday morning will see the release of the Premier League fixtures for the upcoming campaign which gets underway in August, with Newcastle United eagerly anticipating the start of what will be a special season.

Eddie Howe's Toon Army finished fourth last term, enough to qualify for the Champions League and they'll begin the new season as one of the favourites to clinch a top four place once again.

Owing to the Toon's success last season, it's likely they'll feature heavily again this term with the first group of fixtures picked for broadcast over the opening weeks announced on Thursday.

Sky Sports and TNT Sports - the new name for BT Sport - will almost certainly reveal their first-choice picks for the opening weekend on August 13 on Thursday afternoon, with a game expected to kick the new campaign off on Friday evening, August 12.

Last season, Sky Sports had four games over the opening weekend while BT Sport had one on Saturday lunchtime while of the 280 games shown live across the season, Newcastle were shown live 26 times, the last of which came in their final home game against Leicester City, the night which secured Champions League qualification.

Last season's run of 26 live games saw an increase of five from the 21 in the season before and that figure is expected to rise once again given the excitement around Tyneside.

Newcastle's rise up the table last term clearly captured the imagination of Sky Sports and BT Sport. Just three of their opening nine top-flight fixtures were shown live in the UK, but Eddie Howe's side had a whopping 11 consecutive top-flight fixtures beamed out between January 3 and April 5.

Perhaps, that shift should not come as a huge surprise. As part-owner Amanda Staveley said recently: "We create so much magic in that stadium every day and, every time there is a game on, Sky love coming. The broadcasters love it because they get real content."
