LeBron James is approaching one of the all-time great NBA records that you might have thought was unthinkable to break: The most total points in a career, set by the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 38,387 in his storied years.
James, as of Friday morning, now has 38,325 in his career, so it’s only a matter of a few games before he breaks the record. But if you’re wondering when to tune in or perhaps try to see it in person (I imagine it’ll be expensive), this tracker will attempt to help you out.
Let’s see when James might break the record in the next few games:
Where's LeBron at now?
Abdul-Jabbar had 38,387 points, James is at 38,325.
So James needs just 63 points to break the record after the Lakers beat the Pacers on Thursday.
When could he break the record?
Let’s take a look at his next four games:
Feb. 4 at Pelicans
Feb 7 vs. Thunder
Feb. 9 vs. Bucks
Feb. 11 at Warriors
James is currently averaging 30.1 points per game in 2022-23. If he kept that up, he could break it at home against the Thunder on Tuesday, February 7 or on the 9th against the Bucks.
Is there any chance he'd set it elsewhere?
Of course that’s possible. I can’t imagine he’d want to just ease up in a game in which the Lakers were close given that they’re still chasing a playoff spot.
Barring James resting on Saturday, I don’t see it happening any other way.
