In the end, it was reasonably straightforward. After a shaky start, goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka proved enough to see England ease past Senegal and book their place in the last-eight of the 2022 World Cup.
Any team getting this far will surely be dreaming of going all the way, but if the Three Lions are to win their first World Cup title since 1966, they will have to do it the hard way.
Gareth Southgate's men will face defending champions France and will have to emerge victorious if their journey in Qatar is to continue.

When will England play France in World Cup quarter-final?
England will face France on Saturday, December 10, at 7pm UK time in Al Khor, in a mouth-watering knockout tie.
The game will be broadcast live either on the BBC or on ITV, with details set to emerge once the line-up for the last eight is completed on Tuesday, December 6.
Didier Deschamps’ side, who won the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and are one of the favourites again in Qatar, eased past Poland 3-1 in their last-16 fixture.
It will be the first time the two sides have met met at a men's World Cup since 1982, when Bryan Robson scored twice for the Three Lions in a 3-1 victory.
The two sides’ most recent competitive meeting came back in Euro 2012, in a group-stage encounter which saw Samir Nasri equalise for France in a 1-1 draw after Joleon Lescott had given England the lead.
They also met in the group stages at Euro 2004 when two late goals from Zinedine Zidane gave France a 2-1 win.
Who will the winner play in the World Cup semi-final?
Whoever wins the 2022 showdown between England and France will then play one of Morocco, Switzerland, Portugal or Spain in the semi-final on Wednesday, December 14.
