When the national mourning period ends and when things will return to normal

Her Majesty was laid to rest on Monday, September 19, after passing away peacefully on September 8.

Shortly after her death, a Buckingham Palace statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

The death of Queen Elizabeth, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, marks a pivotal moment in the history of the UK, and the world. As such, the nation was placed into a period of mourning following the Queen's passing.

During the period of national mourning, a number of events have been cancelled, while Government announcements and press statements have been paused. Major changes have been made to TV listings, with a number of channels cancelling or suspending certain programmes.

Today (Monday) was made a national bank holiday, meaning schools, many shops, and of course, banks have closed today.

The national mourning period will end as today (Monday, September 19), draws to a close. However, we should expect to still feel and see the effects for many days, if not week, afterwards.

The Royal Family will be in an official mourning period until Monday, September 26. A Buckingham Palace statement read: "It is His Majesty The King’s wish that a period of Royal Mourning be observed from now until seven days after The Queen’s Funeral.

"Royal Mourning will be observed by Members of the Royal Family, Royal Household staff and Representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to Ceremonial Duties."
