When Son Heung-min returns to Tottenham training after South Korea World Cup exit

Son Heung-min is set to return to training at Hotspur Way on Wednesday, December 14, following South Korea's exit from the World Cup. The 30-year-old talisman led his nation to the round of 16 in Qatar before Brazil stood in their way.

He featured in each of South Korea's fixtures at the World Cup, playing a key role in the sides success despite nursing an injury. Son fractured his left eye just weeks before the tournament in the first-half of Spurs' 2-1 UEFA Champions League win over Marseille.

The forward was caught in the face when challenging for a header with Chancel Mbemba. Doubt was quickly cast as to whether Son would travel to Qatar to captain South Korea at the World Cup, but he later underwent surgery around his eye.

Son soldiered on and led the nation out on the World stage to excellent effect while wearing a carbon fibre mask. The Tottenham star was pivotal in South Korea's historic win over Portugal where he provided the all-important game-winning assist.

With Spurs' Premier League campaign set to recommence on Boxing Day, December 26, Antonio Conte will be hoping that Son can continue his rich vein of form. In the meantime, the South Korean can look forward to donning the Lilywhites strip in a friendly against OGC Nice on December 21.

And, there is fire in Son's belly to bounce back. Speaking after South Korea's 4-1 defeat to Brazil, the Spurs forward apologised to fans for not fulfilling their expectations.

"I can only apologise to our fans for not living up to their expectations," said Son. "We did our best but I think we played a very difficult game.

"Still, there is no doubt that all the players battled proudly, devoted themselves and worked hard to get this far. The players and staff really did their best to prepare for this match, so I hope you understand."

Then in a heartfelt message to supporters via a post to his Instagram, he added: "I am writing this to thank you for all your support, support, and interest. During four years, I have tried many things and ran forward towards my dream.

"Not every time there were good moments, but I think those bad moments made us stronger and made the national team we are. We were able to overcome every moment with your constant support from behind!

"Our players worked so hard where they couldn't be seen, and I thought it was an honour to be part of the South Korea team, and my body was broken. I believed that we could definitely go higher, there were regrets but absolutely no regrets.

"I believe that the unforgettable World Cup was created because all the players and staff, including me, tried every second of every day. In addition, as a Korean citizen before becoming a football player, I was able to feel once again how happy I am.

"I really appreciate all the love you guys have sent. From now on, I will do my best to make Korea brighter, not only myself, but also the Korean football team. I love and thank you Korea."
