When Mason Mount will undergo Man Utd medical as Chelsea chase £60m windfall before FFP deadline

It has been revealed when Mason Mount will undergo a medical ahead of a potential transfer to Manchester United. The 24-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford recently, with his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring in 12 months.

football.london understands that the two clubs have now reached an agreement worth around £60million for Mount, who has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils. It's believed that United will pay the Blues £55m, plus a further £5m in add-ons, and the England international will now undergo the formalities of joining a new club.

One of which being his medical. According to The Telegraph, United have scheduled a medical for Mount on Monday, which is three days after the annual Financial Fair Play deadline has passed. On Friday, June 30, Chelsea will have to ensure that their books are balanced to avoid repercussions.

From player sales over the last 12 months, the west Londoners have recorded a profit of £123million. But, an increase in wages, a failure to secure Champions League qualification and the ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic has seen such profits wiped.

In an exclusive interview with football.london, football finance expert Kieran Maguire explained what the FFP deadline means to Chelsea and why it's such an important date for Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. He said: "For Financial Fair Play purposes, football clubs are assessed on the three most recent seasons as far as their financial reports are concerned.

"Most clubs, this includes Chelsea, have a financial year end of June 30, this means they will be assessed on the year ending 30 June 2021 to 30 June 2022 and 30 June 2023 by the Premier League. Under the Premier League, you are allowed to lose a maximum of £105m over that period.

"If we take a look at Chelsea's results, they made a loss of £277m in the two years ended the 30th June 2022. They have a bit of a challenge here. Having said that, you are allowed to adjust the accounts for Covid, academy investment, for the women's team, for infrastructure commitments and for community activities, so that helps to reduce your losses.

"Chelsea, probably - but we don't know, this has not yet been disclosed - will be allowed some form of allowance by the Premier League for the period where the club had its assets frozen as far as the period under which Roman Abramovich's ending of ownership and the starting of ownership by the Clearlake group took place. But we don't know the exact details."

It remains to be seen whether the windfall secured from the potential sale of Mount will go into this season's books or next. But, one thing for sure is that if Chelsea are treading a fine line then the departures of Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic have certainly given the club some breathing space.
