'When it's Martinelli' - Arsenal fans fume amid Argentina vs Netherlands and Paredes chaos

Arsenal supporters were unhappy with refereeing decisions in the World Cup clash between Argentina and Netherlands on Friday night, comparing it to a situation involving Gabriel Martinelli. The clash in the quarter-finals of the competition got feisty as the South American side saw their two-goal lead slip late on in regular time.

Tempers flared as substituted Leandro Paredes put in a reckless challenge on Nathan Ake with a foul being given by the referee. As that decision was made, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder decided he would take aim at the Dutch bench and booted the ball into those sitting there, causing a brawl on the pitch.

The incident could have seen the substitute booked twice resulting in a red card, but this wasn't the case as he was let off with just the one yellow card. It caused many to compare it to Martinelli's sending off against Wolves last season, where two bookable offences in one move resulted in him being sent off.

Arsenal fans took to social media over the comparisons, with some claiming that only when it happens to them is it properly punished by officials.

@RonnieMagero: "Only applies when it’s Martinelli."

@afcDW: "Paredes should be off. That’s a yellow card challenge and then a yellow card for booting the ball into the bench. Why is he still on?"

@AFCDecko_: "Justice for Martinelli away to wolves."

@JamesCackett: "Only Martinelli gets two yellows."

@Twasinit: "Double yellow on the same play is only for Arsenal players..."
