I read with interest Felicity Cloake’s take on why she likes to try many different things on the menu and how she is trying not to judge the Bidens for ordering the same thing (Why did the Bidens order the same meal at a restaurant? I have my theories, 3 March). Many years ago, when I first moved to London, my husband and I would make a point of ordering different dishes, not wanting to overlap and thinking that that was a good way to try the entire menu.
Now, as we enter our 29th year of marriage, we often find ourselves ordering the same thing. Sometimes it’s what we both want. Sometimes one of us is exhausted with a day of decision-making and just goes along with the other person’s choice. After a long day of being president, it’s probably a relief for Joe Biden to have what Jill’s having. Or vice versa.
