Following what has become the biggest national strike day in over a decade, more teachers are planning to go on strike across February and March.
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) voted in favour of taking more industrial action in England and Wales. If the union does not vote to accept any new dates within the coming weeks, then the strikes will continue as planned.
On Wednesday, it is understood that "more than 200,000" NEU members went out on strike in a day of industrial action that was labelled "really effective", according to Kevin Courtney, joint general secretary of the NEU. Meanwhile, NEU leaders are continuing to call on the Education Secretary to "step up with concrete and meaningful proposals" on pay which would prevent any further strike action.

Mr Courtney and Mary Bousted, joint general secretaries of the NEU, said the Education Secretary has "until our next strike day for England, February 28, to change her stance." They added: "NEU members do not want to go on strike again.
"They want constructive talks that deal directly with the long-standing concerns they experience in their schools and colleges every day. So that they can get back to doing what they do best, working with pupils in the classroom. However, be in no doubt that our members will do whatever it takes to stand up for education, including further strike action, if Gillian Keegan still fails to step up with concrete and meaningful proposals.”
When are teachers next going on strike?
Teachers will be going on strike across England and Wales over the coming weeks. However, it will be just over a month until a national strike across England and Wales will take place.
The planned teacher strike days are as follows:
- Tuesday, February 14 - Wales
- Tuesday, February 28 - North West, Yorkshire, and The Humber
- Wednesday, March 1 - East Midlands, West Midlands
- Thursday, March 2 - London
- Wednesday, March 15 - England and Wales
- Thursday, March 16 - England and Wales
