When is the Champions League final 2022? Date, kick-off time and venue

Manchester City and Liverpool are set to take the Premier League title to the final game of the season after another thrilling campaign and they could come up against each other in European's biggest game if they overcome their Spanish counterparts.

With only one point separating the pair at the top of the league, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp could secure a fourth meeting of the season if they manage to be at their best to defeat Real Madrid and Villarreal.

City put themselves in a good position to conquer 13-time European champions Real Madrid yesterday when they defeated Carlo Ancelotti's side 4-3 at the Etihad Stadium thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.

Liverpool face Europa League holders Villarreal, who have already crashed Juventus and Bayern Munich out of the competition, in the semi-final, with the first leg taking place this evening.

Where is the final?

The winners of the two semi-finals will face-off at the home of PSG and the French national team, the Stade de France.

Originally, the final was set to take place at the Krestovsky Stadium in Russia, but UEFA stripped St Petersburg of its hosting rights following the countries invasion of Ukraine in February.

May's final will be the third time the Champions League final has taken played at the Stade de France, after previously hosting the 1990-2000 and 2005-06 finals. Each time, the trophy was won by Spanish sides, with Real Madrid comfortably defeating La Liga rivals Valencia 3-0 in 2000 before Barcelona came from behind to defeat 10-man Arsenal 2-1 in 2006.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are the remaining previous winners of the European Cup and have both been victorious in Paris. Real doing so in 1955 and 2000 and Liverpool in 1981 when they defeated Real.

The final will be held a week after the game round of domestic league fixtures have been played on Saturday 28 May and begin at a regular kick-off time of 8pm BST.

Manchester City vs Real Madrid

  • Second leg: Wednesday 4 May (Bernabeu)

Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti's seventh meeting against each other didn't disappoint last night, with seven goals shared between City and Real.

Despite storming into a two-goal lead on three occasions, City will travel to Bernabeu next Wednesday with only a single goal lead after another inspiring performance from Karin Benzema.

With no Kyle Walker or Joao Cancelo to choose from due to suspension and injury, John Stones started at right-back for the Citizens but was replaced after 36 minutes for Fernandinho.

City travel to Leeds United on Saturday evening inbetween the two ties against Madrid, whilst the Spanish side look to edge closer to a 35th La Liga title when they host Espanyol.

Liverpool vs Villarreal

  • Second leg: Tuesday 3 May (La Ceramica)

This season's surprise package Villarreal are task with the huge task of knocking out another European giant when they come up against Liverpool this week.

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery has demonstrated his qualities as a manager and has assembled a squad capable of doing the impossible of lifting the club's first ever Champions League title. Villarreal have a strong nucleus of former Premier League players including Etienne Capoue, Francis Coquelin, Giovani Lo Celso, Juan Foyth and Arnaut Danjuma.

Liverpool come into the tie of the back only one defeat in 26 games and are favourites to reach a third Champions League final in five years. Should Klopp's side surpass Villarreal, they will join AC Milan as the second-most successful team in the competition with seven titles.
