We believe the best time to buy a mattress is when you absolutely need one — but if saving money is your top priority, then you'll need to time your purchase accordingly. Five major mattress sales take place every year, and we'll be ranking them for you right here.
So is Black Friday still the best time to buy a new mattress? Yes, but over the last several years, it's had some stiff competition as we've seen Black Friday deals matched (or even beaten) during major holiday sales. Next up is Memorial Day in late May, which precedes what's traditionally considered a low point for mattress deals (barring the 4th of July).
If you want any of the best mattresses of 2025 at their lowest prices of the year, here's when you should plan to shop.
When is the best time to buy a mattress?
Generally, when people ask this question, they want to know how to find the year's best deal for the mattress they have their eye on.
Black Friday — or rather Black Friday season since sales begin as early as mid-to-late October — remains the best time of year to buy a top-rated mattress at the cheapest price. Mattress retailers and brands get super-competitive, firing out their lowest prices coupled with their biggest discounts.
Outside of Black Friday, four other major events are known for delivering excellent mattress deals. These sales have become increasingly competitive in recent years, with offers that match (or sometimes beat) those we see on Black Friday.
But make no mistake — Black Friday is still the benchmark by which brands and retailers abide when launching these sales. Here’s what you need to know about the best time to buy a mattress, with the top five sales ranked in order of the biggest savings and the cheapest prices.
The 5 best mattress sales of the year, ranked

1. Black Friday mattress deals
When: Mid-to-late October through November
Black Friday mattress deals are when most mattress firms unleash their biggest discounts of the year. Some companies also drop the MSRPs to increase the total savings.
Black Friday sales are creeping up earlier each year. It feels like they begin no sooner after Labor Day ends. Rarely do companies launch a Black Friday sale on the day itself. At this rate, it's nearly a month-long affair.
You can save hundreds on the best mattresses in a box during the Black Friday sales, making it the best time to buy a mattress. Black Friday takes place on November 28, 2025.
2. Cyber Monday mattress sales
When: The Monday after Black Friday
Cyber Monday mattress sales are often an extension of Black Friday deals, allowing you to get the biggest discounts (and lowest MSRPs) for a little while longer.
It's rare to see prices fall lower than during the actual Black Friday sales, but some offer gifts and bundles to entice late shoppers to part with their cash.
Cyber Monday is an opportunity to land a deal on the best hybrid mattresses or best memory foam mattresses at their lowest prices. This year, Cyber Monday falls on December 1.
3. Labor Day mattress sales
When: Late August to Early September
We view the Labor Day mattress sales as an early warm-up to Black Friday. This year, Labor Day takes place on September 1, but sales usually kick off at least a week before and then run a few days after the holiday.
Think of Labor Day as the low-key opening act to Black Friday's main event. A benefit to buying a mattress during this time is that you'll be less prone to shipping delays, a common effect of the Black Friday sales frenzy.
If you have several months left in your current bed, yet you can’t wait until November, take advantage of the Labor Day sales. All the major sleep brands participate — in recent years, we have seen discounts ranging from 15% to 60% on top-rated mattresses.

Even better, for the past few years, luxury sleep brand Saatva has dropped the price of its flagship hybrid mattress, the Saatva Classic, to its lowest price of the year around Labor Day — even cheaper than Black Friday.
So if you’re shopping for the best Saatva mattress sales of the year, they always land in September to tie in with Labor Day. Meanwhile, read our Saatva Classic mattress review to learn why we rate it number one overall.
4. Presidents’ Day mattress sales
When: February
The Presidents’ Day mattress sales represent the first major discounts of the year, as sales tend to be more subdued between Christmas and New Year. They'll run for roughly the first half of February.
If you missed a Black Friday deal, they often come back for Presidents' Day. There's a reason behind this — it's an opportunity for brands to sell large chunks of old stock to make room for new releases, which typically roll out in the springtime.
This is a savvy time to buy a new bed if you're happy with a past-season model or a final sale clearance item (with no returns or sleep trials). We’ve seen Casper mattress sales and Tempur-Pedic mattress deals that offer up to 45% off these closeout models — and they're an absolute steal.
5. Memorial Day mattress sales
When: May
There’s a big gap between Presidents’ Day and Memorial Day mattress sales at the end of May. Mattress prices tend to increase during the summertime, so Memorial Day is your last chance to buy a top-performing mattress for less.
Summer price increases on beds are common among many brands, and we usually see the cost of mattresses rise by around $50 to $200 dollars. These discounts aren’t as good as those we normally see on Labor Day (in September) or Presidents’ Day (in February).

There's one exception. Last year, Helix cut an unprecedented 30% off its Luxe and Elite lineup for Memorial Day. That dropped our favorite mattress for side sleepers, the Helix Midnight Luxe, to $1,661.66 (was $2,373) with a pair of free pillows.
Price-wise, it's the best deal we saw for the Midnight Luxe last year. (Black Friday featured a larger bundle and a 27% discount). Check out our Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress review to find out why we like it so much.
If you find yourself on the brink of needing a new bed come May, shop the Memorial Day sales to avoid paying higher prices in the summertime.
What about...
July 4th mattress sales: These offer a bit of a reprieve from the higher sale prices that take place during the summertime — and while the deals may not be as good, there are outliers. Notably, the epic Helix 30% off discount from Memorial Day 2024 made a return on the 4th of July.
Amazon Prime Day: Amazon has been hosting major sales events in July and October for the last several years. While you can find deals on mattresses during Prime Day, Black Friday and Labor Day sale prices are usually better. That said, Prime Day yields solid deals for a cheap Amazon mattress and discontinued models from major name brands.
