When is the 2022 World Cup draw? How to watch and TV channel as England discover group opponents

England will learn their fate on Friday when the draw for the 2022 World Cup group stages is conducted. The Three Lions secured their place in Qatar with ease after remaining unbeaten during their qualification campaign.

The road to this year’s tournament has entered its final stages with 29 of the 32 places in Qatar confirmed. The FIFA world rankings will ultimately determine which teams go in each of the four pots, although England will be amongst the top seeded nations.

This year’s tournament will be the last featuring 32 countries before FIFA expands the format to 48 teams at the 2026 World Cup in North America. And football.london has all you need to know about the upcoming draw…

When is the draw?

The draw will be conducted in Qatar at 7pm local time (5pm BST) on Friday, April, 1 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.

The draw will take place, with 29 of the 32 teams confirmed as there are still two countries yet to qualify through inter-confederation play-offs. The additional place will be taken by the winner of UEFA’s Path A play-off, which has been delayed by the war in Ukraine, whose footballers are still to play Scotland, with the winners of that match then facing Wales for a place in the finals.

How can you follow the draw?

The draw will be broadcast live on BBC 1 and can also be seen via iPlayer and the iPlayer app, with coverage beginning at 4:45pm. You can also watch the draw on FIFA’s website or keep track of it all by following the football.london live blog.
