When is the 2022 Champions League final? Date, kick-off time and teams involved

The UEFA Champions League final is perhaps the biggest and most exciting event in club football, where two teams battle it out to win one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world, with the 2021-22 version set to take place at the end of this month.

The two finalists have made it through six group stage games, and three, two-legged knockout rounds to make it to the final, and are now just one more game away from lifting that famous European trophy.

Here is all you need to know about the 2021-22 Champions League final, including when it is, where it takes place and who will be involved.

When is the Champions League final?

The 2021-22 Champions League final will kick-off at 8pm on May 28 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France.

The final was originally scheduled to take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich, before it was changed to the Krestovsky Stadium (Gazprom Arena) in Saint Petersburg, Russia. However, in February, the venue was changed for a second time due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This will be the third time that the Stade de France has hosted the Champions League final, following the 2000 and 2006 editions of the tournament. It is the seventh largest stadium in Europe with a seated capacity of 80,698 and is the national stadium of France.

How to watch

With BT Sport having exclusive broadcast rights for the Champions League in 2021-22, the final will be shown across its television channels on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate, while it is also available to stream on the BT Sport app.

In previous years, the Champions League final has been made available to watch for free on the BT Sport YouTube channel, so there is a chance the same will happen again in 2022.

Who’s involved?

Liverpool booked their place in the final with a 3-2 win over Villarreal on Tuesday (5-3 on aggregate) and will face Real Madrid after they stunned Manchester City with a dramatic fightback on Wednesday to win 3-1 (6-5 on aggregate).

Real Madrid are the current record holders for most Champions League titles, with 13, while Liverpool have won the competition on six occasions.

Last season’s Champions League final was contested between two Premier League clubs in Man City and Chelsea at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game to give Chelsea their second Champions League title, coming nine years after their first.
