Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest has taken the spot of E3 in the gaming calendar, with this years show promising 2 hours of announcements from over 40 partners.
Summer Game Fest is the next stop on the gaming calendar, following the PlayStation Showcase two weeks ago where we got as look at handheld Project Q, and last week's Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Geoff Keighley's showcase has been the de-facto replacement for E3 while the once-great convention struggles to adapt to the digital age spearheaded by the likes of Nintendo Direct – which showed publishers it was far easier to host their own online game showcases (such as the Xbox and Starfield Showcase later on this week).
Geoff Keighley announced via a Tweet that over 40 partners are involved in Summer Game Fest including the likes of PlayStation, Xbox, Sega, Capcom, and Square Enix. However, the wording of this Tweet refers to these partners being 'set to take part in Summer Game Fest activities', which doesn't necessarily confirm they will all be involved in the Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase live stream.
When is Summer Game Fest 2023?
The Summer Game Fest 2023 starts at 8pm BST / 3pm EDT / 12pm PDT on Thursday, June 8. The event is set to last for two hours.
Immediately following Summer Game Fest will be the Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition stream which will show off upcoming titles from indie developers. With Devolver Digital's showcase arriving following Day of the Devs.
Where to watch Summer Game Fest 2023
Summer Game Fest 2023 will be available to stream via The Game Awards' YouTube and Twitch channels (among other platforms like Twitter, TikTok, and Steam)
We'll also be streaming along with the show live on the Mirror Gaming YouTube channel so you can experience our reactions and takes from all the news coming from the show. We'll embed that here when it's live.
Summer Game Fest 2023: what to expect
There are some confirmed titles for the showcase including Mortal Kombat 1 which will give us the first look at the actual gameplay for the title introduced by series creator Ed Boon, following a CG trailer last month. We'll also be treated to an extended look at Alan Wake 2 gameplay from Sam Lake (known for being Max Payne's face model).
Given Geoff Keighley's well known bromance with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, there's a strong chance we could see more from Death Stranding 2 at this week's event.
Given the PlayStation Showcase no-show and that the Death Stranding sequel was announced at Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards show back in December 2022 , we think there's a pretty good chance of it showing up here.
