When is season 3 of Euphoria coming out and why is release date so far?

It's the TV show that's had everyone talking recently, and it's already been confirmed that there will be a season three of Euphoria.

The HBO show, which stars the likes of Zendaya, Maude Apatow and Jacob Elordi, first hit TV screens in June 2019 and has since built up a cult-like following.

Euphoria seasons one and two follows a group of high school students through their experiences of identity, trauma, drugs, friendships, love, and sex.

Zendaya, who also serves as the series' narrator, plays the part of drug addict Rue Bennett who is fresh out of rehab and struggling to find her place in the world following the death of her father.

During season one, she develops a complicated relationship with new student Jules who is transgender and played by Hunter Schafer.

Across the two seasons there's plenty of back stories too, involving Nate Jacobs and his love triangle with Maddy Perez and Cassie Howard as well as his childhood growing up with his dad Cal Jacobs.

When is season 3 of Euphoria coming out?

Euphoria season 3 has already been confirmed but it's unsure when it will hit TV screens (HBO)

Euphoria season 3 was confirmed before season 2 had even finished airing on television - but there's some bad news too.

In an official statement, Francesca Orsi, Vice President of HBO programming, said: "Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken season two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart.

"We couldn't be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season three."

An exact release date for season 3 hasn't been announced and some fans are panicking that they could have to wait a couple of years.

Some viewers think the third instalment won't hit TV screens until 2024, kicking off speculation of a two-year wait.

Hardcore fans had to wait a long time for the second season to arrive due to the lockdown and the pandemic, and it wasn't released until January 2022.

Why is the Euphoria season 3 release date so far away?

Fezco, played by Angus Cloud, is a drug dealer but also a close friend of Rue (HBO)

There's several reasons why Euphoria fans think the third season could be a couple of years away.

Some sources are citing the fact that there was two and a half years between season one and two, while others are suggesting that Zendaya's hectic schedule could be to blame.

The 25-year-old actress is certainly in demand and is currently filming Dune Part 2, Challengers, and Megalopolis.

Who is returning for season 3 of Euphoria?

Cassie Howard, played by Sydney Sweeney, will no doubt return for the third season of Euphoria (HBO)

Euphoria season three looks set to feature most of the main cast, however there's one face that will definitely be missing.

The final episode of season two saw Fezco's adopted brother and business partner Ashtray shot dead by police after enduring a face off with them inside Fezco's house.

It's unsure how much Fezco will feature in the third season, and whether or not he will end up in prison following the murder of Custer.

The future's not looking vert bright for Cal either after his son Nate called the police on him and seemingly threatened to hand over footage of him having sex with underage people.

However, it looks like the main group of teenage girls will all be back for more drama in season three as well as Rue's sister Gia and her best friend Lexi.

Euphoria seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on NOW.
