When is Manchester United's next game after the World Cup?

Manchester United signed off for the Premier League's winter break in style, with a late, late win against Fulham at the weekend.

Erik ten Hag's side sealed a 2-1 victory over the Cottagers in stoppage time with youngster Alejandro Garnacho scoring a classy winner. That was the first senior goal of the Argentine's career and it was greeted with apt celebrations from the player himself, teammates and manager Ten Hag on the touchline.

The win saw United strengthen their grip on fifth place and at the pause they sit on 26 points - just three behind Tottenham in fourth spot. Attentions now turn towards the World Cup in Qatar. It is the first time ever that the extravaganza has been held in winter, and its timing has provided a logistical headache for United and their top-flight rivals.

Due to the dates involved, the tournament is being condensed into a smaller timeframe. The first match takes place on Sunday, November 20 with the final exactly four weeks later on Sunday, December 18.

United's next fixture is the Carabao Cup fourth round tie at home to Burnley on Wednesday 21 December - just three days after the final in Doha.

Their next Premier League outing is not until Tuesday, December 27. They host newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford at 8pm. The game will be shown live on Amazon Prime as part of their agreement to stream top-flight matches.

The match comes after eight other fixtures during the Premier League's seasonal resumption. Seven games take place on Boxing Day, with Chelsea against Bournemouth kicking off hours before the United-Forest clash.

Leeds welcome Manchester City to Elland Road on December 28 to complete matchday 16.
