When is Liverpool's next match after the World Cup in Qatar?

Liverpool’s season has now reached the mid-season break thanks to the World Cup.

The Reds played their final fixture before the hiatus on Saturday, as they beat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League. A Darwin Nunez brace was supported by a header from Roberto Firmino to secure the win at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side go into the break in sixth place in the league table, seven points adrift of the top four places with a game in hand. The German will now be hoping all of his players come back fresh and healthy for when the campaign resumes next month.

While the World Cup is going on, Liverpool will take part in a pre-season style training camp in Dubai. They will play friendly matches against AC Milan and Lyon while in the Middle East, as the squad prepares to return to action.

After that, all attention will be on the return to competitive action around Christmas time. First up will be a Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The date for that match has been confirmed to kick off at 8pm on Thursday, December 22, just a few days after the World Cup final in Qatar. Klopp is likely to have the majority of his squad back available with some still either recovering from injury or on a break after their involvement with their country.

Liverpool’s first league match sees them travel to face Aston Villa on Boxing Day. That match kicks off at 5.30pm on December 26, with the return to Anfield coming a few days later on December 30 against Leicester City in the Premier League.
