When is ITV's Raoul Moat drama on? Three part series to dominate primetime schedule

Thirteen years after the killer and his crimes made headlines across the country, ITV are getting ready to air The Hunt for Raoul Moat, a three part drama series that is set to pull in huge audiences for the channel.

It was back in the summer of 2010 that Moat, less than 48 hours after being released from prison, headed to Birtley to shoot and kill ex Samantha Stobbart new boyfriend Christopher Brown; also shooting and injuring Samantha, before fleeing the scene. The former Newcastle doorman believed that Brown was a police officer and, continuing his vendetta against the police, Moat then shot and blinded PVC David Rathband as he sat in a patrol car on the outskirts of Newcastle.

From there, Moat fled to Northumberland, aided by two accomplices and managed to escape detection in the quiet village of Rothbury for a number of days, before being involved in a tense final stand-off with police and killing himself with a gun shot.

Plans were first announced for The Hunt for Raoul Moat last year, when the cast, including lead actor Matt Stokoe were spotted filming scenes.

When is The Hunt for Raoul Moat on ITV?

The Hunt for Raoul Moat starts on ITV1 on Sunday, April 16 at 9pm.

The drama will run over consecutive nights, wrapping up on Tuesday, April 18, before a documentary about Moat airs the following night.

The Hunt for Raoul Moat is being brought to screen by World Productions, the same company responsible for smash hit BBC drama Bodyguard, Line of Duty and Vigil. The Hunt for Raoul Moat cast includes Inspector George Gently star Lee Ingleby and former Vera actress Sonya Cassidy.

A synopsis for Sunday's first episode reads: "Samantha Stobbart strikes up a new romance with Christopher Brown, but is increasingly nervous about her abusive ex-partner Raoul Moat, who is about to be released from prison. Possessive and pathologically jealous, Moat becomes incensed when he learns about her new partner and commits a brutal and violent crime upon his release from jail."

It adds: "On the run, Moat has no intention of going quietly and sets his sights on attacking the police force now hunting him."
