When is it going to rain again? The date the heatwave will end and the showers start

Hosepipe bans are being introduced in areas across the UK and reservoirs are looking worryingly empty. It all means that, for once in our lives, Welsh people are wondering when we will see rain once again.

Currently, parts of Wales and England are under an amber 'extreme heat' warning. While it's not anticipated to get as hot as it did during July's record-breaking heatwave, The Met Office has said: "The heat will build through the week, peaking on Friday and Saturday thanks to the influence of high pressure positioned over the UK. See what the weather will look like where you are throughout the heatwave here.

A hosepipe ban has already been put in place in some areas of the UK, including Pembrokeshire and parts of Carmarthenshire. Reservoirs in the Brecon Beacons are also looking dryer than usual, with photographs showing decreased water levels as the hot weather continues - you can see the drone footage here.

But rain is coming. The first signs of rainfall will be in north Wales, in Bala and Ruthin, which are both forecast "light rain" at 4pm on Sunday, August 14. Temperatures will remain warm, however, at 26C in Bala and 29C in Ruthin. Light showers are also forecast in Pontypridd on Sunday evening.

Overnight, mid and west Wales will begin seeing light showers, specifically in Machynlleth and Penrhiw-Llan before spreading across most of Pembrokeshire and parts of Carmarthenshire.

The bulk of the rain will be seen on Monday, finally bringing an end to the dry spell. The Met Office predicts: "Monday likely less hot with some showers or thunderstorms." Areas in mid Wales will see the heaviest of the rain, with light rain forecast in most areas by 4pm on Monday. Temperatures will return nearer to the August average, ranging between 19C and 24C. Rain will continue into Tuesday for most of west Wales, as well as parts of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Cardiff and Pontypridd. The Met Office predicts temperatures between 15C and 18C by 7am.

Looking at the long-range UK forecast, more rain and thunder could surface before another period of hot weather. The UK forecast between Monday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 24 says: "This period will see the breakdown of the hot, sunny and dry weather of recent days, with conditions becoming more unsettled across the UK. Showers will spread from the west and south next week, sometimes heavy and thundery, though drier periods with sunny spells are still likely between them.

"At the same time, temperatures will gradually decrease to closer to normal for August. Later in the period, the more changeable weather will prevail with a risk of heavy showers or thunderstorms continuing, but clear and dry spells in between too. Returning to warm or very warm towards the end of the period for much of England and Wales, perhaps becoming locally hot in parts of the south and southeast."
